Every scientist already in the Greek Scientist Database is eligible for inclusion in the @ionianhallofscience.
Nevertheless, we have found that not all scientists of Ionian origin have been included in the Greek Scientist Database. This is mainly due to the fact that the Greek Scientist Database is based on findings mainly from the Scopus database. Even the researchers that developed the Greek Scientist database at Stanford acknowledge some important limitations that led to the (non intentional) exclusion of several scientists. We have already identified several scientists of Ionian origin that are not included in the Greek Scientist Database.
As we have concluded that several scientists of Ionian origin have not been included in the Greek Scientist Database, that we initially rely on, we are expecting to receive several submissions of scientists not included in the Greek Scientist database. Thus, we are obligated to introduce our eligibility criteria for inclusion in the @ionianhallofscience.
The @ionianhallofscience scientist database is open to all scientists of Ionian origin or current residence. We have decided that the criteria presented in the research work that led to the creation of the Greek Scientist Database is a superset of the criteria that we will initially require. This means that eventhough all scientists in the Stanford database are eligible to be included in the @ionianhallofscience, we will not take into account the number of publications in our criteria.
In order to be included in the @ionianhallofscience a scientist must:
- Hold a PhD or equivalent degree.
- Be born in one of the Ionian islands or be born elsewhere (second or higher generation) but whose family (at least one of their parents or grandparents) were of Ionian origin or be born elsewhere and are now permanent residents or work in one of the Ionian Islands.
- Be academically and/or professionally affiliated with a renowned Institution (University, Research Institute, Organization or Company).
- Scientists are eligible regardless of whether they have their current main affiliation in Greece or elsewhere.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The criteria that we have introduced here are the initial eligibility criteria that we have formulated based on our current knowledge of the Ionian Scientific Community. Since the @ionianhallofscience intends to be a co-created project and our aim is to be as inclusive as possible, we aim to re-evaluate the eligibility criteria during the project implementation phase based on potential refinement proposals.
